Impending War?

Posted in My View On Politics at 9:27 am by smileygirly

It seems as though there is an impending war looming in Sri Lanka. Again, I can only comment on what I know and these are my only views. Last night, my friend and I were discussing the situation in Sri Lanka. He asked what my views were on it.

As I’ve already stated, should the LTTE get what they want, how much of the Tamil Diaspora go back to their “homeland” is questionable and how much the separate state will benefit the Tamil people is debateable. However, it’s undeniable that Tamil people are considered second-class citizens.

What really angered me however though is this whole Israel – Lebanon thing. I condone the actions of both parties in this. My knowledge of politics in the Middle East is weak – to say the least. However, there has been an ongoing Civil War in Sri Lanka for the best part of three decades yet the amount of outrage and media coverage is unaccountable for (in my humble opinion). It seems as though the Western Influences can only speak out against actions where their assets are compromised. It’s obvious that Sri Lanka does not have massive oil wells! We are a humble land that has been ravaged by war but genocide is genocide whether there are goods to offer or not!

The Middle East situation has been ongoing for what? 2 – 3 weeks? Compared with the situation in Sri Lanka and even Rwanda or Somalia where Civil Wars have been ongoing for an immense number of years yet public awareness is weak.

The fault of this is questionable. Is it down to individuals themselves for not being aware? Is it the fault of the Media for not publicising it? Or is the fault of influential Powers for not giving a shit? My personal opinion is that it is the last of these three. In my view, it seems as though this is all about Oil. This is what is everyone’s concern is about the situation in the Middle East.

A human life seems irrelevant when money comes into the equation.

All events prove that, peace is not a thing that’s gaurateed. The nature of humans doesnt change even after such a high level of civilization.

A request for you.. dont ever compare Israel-lebanon conflict with srilankan conflict. Both are entirely different in its own clause.

Isreal conflict is the result of palestince & lebanese muslims, wanting to completely destroy israel. While in srilanka, uprising of tamils is due to their continuous oppression of sinhalese. here no one wants to destroy others, but to defeat others. There is still a lot of hope for peace in srilanka, but there’s not even a minute chance for peace in middle east.

To me, the tamils have gone to extreme in their pursuit of violence.. but i feel, that’s unavaoidable in most situations due to human character.

I wasn’t comparing the causes that they were fighting for nor what it is a result of.

The only thing I was comparing is that both are wars and why one should get one get presidence over another?
And it’s very kind of you to request that I don’t compare anything but you must remember kindly that this is MY blog and MY opinions of which I am entitled to.

Your view of the Lebanon conflict displays your total ignorance towards world events. You betray your naivety with comments like “Isreal conflict is the result of palestince & lebanese muslims, wanting to completely destroy israel.”

In reality, Muslims would like to live side by side with a neighbour that isn’t occupying their homes, that isn’t bombing civilian homes, and isn’t limiting their movement in their own country.

And, I have to say, I do see definite similarites in both the Lebanon-Middle East conflict, and the Tamil-Sinhalese conflict. Both are the result of the oppression of basic human rights. I would also venture to say that you havent tasted the oppression that either of these people have suffered, therefore giving you no right to comment on their resistance to oppression as a “pursuit of violence”.

I agree that this conflict doesn’t garner nearly as much attention, mainly due to lack of Western interests in the area. Although I’m sure, that were they to start showing the conflict, it would more than likely favour the Sinhalese, and not the Tamil Tigers (or “terrorists” as is the term for anyone that holds a gun not sold to them by the US).

Smiley… I accept ur points that u r entitled to your opinions. excuse me for forcing my opinion on u.

    Oz:…
It would be a never ending argument, if palestine conflict is debated.

But let me put my understanding of the ground situation shortly…

Hamas & Hizbollah openly declared that their aim is complete destruction of israel. Iran vows to wipe out israel from world map.
Israel says, they want to live peacefully in their land but it was attacked by hamas & hizbollah, actively supported by other muslim countries.

In reality, Muslims would like to live side by side with a neighbour that isn’t occupying their homes, that isn’t bombing civilian homes, and isn’t limiting their movement in their own country.

I cannot accept your statements. What wrong did the Kashmiri Pandits did to the muslims. But they are being driven away from their homeland by the muslim terrorists.
The Hindus in pakistan & Bangladesh had been tortured & suppressed. What did they do to the muslims.

We know what’s the pain of facing a terrorist bomb attack.. and hence we know the situation at israel verywell.

Now, the world countries may not support israel, because they dont want to rist oil embargo from the arab & muslim countries. But everyone knows the truth very well..

From the history point of view, the jews had been living in both palestine & arabian land for more than 3000 years, in harmony with pre-islamic arabian people. they were driven out of the whole arabian peninsula, after the advent of islam.

And now, the israelis have carved out a minimum portion of land for them, develped the desert by their hardwork & technology. But they are not being allowed to live peacefully.
